Child-centred & Trauma-informed Practice, Hamilton
Nicola Atwool, associate professor at Otago University, will talk about some of the challenges of social work and lead an interactive workshop on child-centred and trauma-informed practice as two examples of current practice issues.
Morning session agenda: Why are the two practices important? Changes in the NZ care and protection system Dominant perspectives on care and protection What is Child-Centred Practice and where did it come from?
Afternoon session agenda: What is trauma and trauma-informed practice? The impact of trauma on brain development Implications for social work - children, adults, and perpetrators
Friday 16 June, 9.00am to 4.00pm Conference room, Distinction Hamilton, 100 Garnett Ave, Hamilton. Morning tea and lunch provided.
NOTE: It is possible to register for a half day—morning or afternoon. Morning session will cover child-centred practice, afternoon session will cover trauma-informed practice.
FEES $30 for SSPA members ($15 for a half day). $50 for non SSPA ($25 for a half day).
