Te Pai SSPA Feedback to Te Rua Mahara o te Kāwanatanga Archives New Zealand
The Abuse in Care Royal Commission of Inquiry recommended the Crown urgently:
- look at the rules around keeping care records
- think about stopping disposal of them until finishing its other work about care records.
As a first step to address these recommendations, Te Rua Mahara o te Kāwanatanga Archives New Zealand and the Crown Response Unit developed a scope and definition of care records using insights from the Royal Commission’s work and through engagements with care advocates, agencies and survivors.
Te Rua Mahara o te Kāwanatanga Archives New Zealand seeked feedback on which types of records may be needed by those who have experience with State and non-State care (including faith-based), to protect their rights and understand their life stories.
